Intro

I entered middle age a few years ago...okay, a little more than a few. Our daughters are 28 and 26. After they left, I cautiously redecorated their bedrooms. I did the usual, donated "Lucky" brand jeans (left from 3rd grade) and stuffed animals to a local thrift store. Next, I threw away countless plastic bags from "The Gap" and other retailers. Some of them included various amounts of change, which of course I took as my housekeeping fee. Every $6.40 helps!

I slowly bought new furniture items that I liked - a futon and frame, small roll-top desk, area rugs and lamps. One room was starting to resemble my new "office" which would double as a guest room when necessary. One morning as I was getting ready to leave for work, I heard (and felt) a very large boom-crash. I cautiously walked upstairs to find the dust clearing and about half of the ceiling of my new room on the floor. Ah, the joys of owning an antique house...

How could I just forget all these things?

Well, the bedroom closet cleaning spilled over into the rest of the bedroom a little. That is actually true in two ways. I am building up quite a stack of "to be filed" items and they are hanging out in the bedroom for the time being. The other way it "spilled" is that I began work on clearing non-essentials from the main part of the bedroom.
Now, there is no one who would call our bedroom the "master bedroom." It is pretty small, does not have an attached bath or even a private bath. Hard to believe as it may be, our house was built sans toilettes. There are 2 bathrooms in the house, and both were added sometime later in the 20th century. They are not attached to or associated with anything in the rest of the house. Back to the bedroom - it's small. We have a queen size bed, because if we had a king, we would not be able to open the closet doors. In addition to the bed, there are 2 night stands and 2 dressers. The guitar in it's case is still behind one of the French doors (but it is dust-free). I have to move the dressers just a smidgen closer together so that the file cabinet will fit in a corner of the room. There really is no way to make the room look uncrowded unless we take all of the furniture out.
Getting back to my original point, I am just amazed at the things that I am finding that I have no recollection of. On Saturday, I found a really silly looking plastic duck wearing striped shorts .How could I not remember seeing that thing? It was wedged under a bottom shelf in my closet. Tonight I found a box of fabric remnants and sewing patterns. I knew that the fabric was there, but not the patterns. I looked through them and realized that I had sewn those things - some for myself and some for my daughter when she was little. Huh - I used to sew - apparently more than I remember.
There is no moral to this story, but I am aghast at just how much useless stuff I keep finding.
