Intro

I entered middle age a few years ago...okay, a little more than a few. Our daughters are 28 and 26. After they left, I cautiously redecorated their bedrooms. I did the usual, donated "Lucky" brand jeans (left from 3rd grade) and stuffed animals to a local thrift store. Next, I threw away countless plastic bags from "The Gap" and other retailers. Some of them included various amounts of change, which of course I took as my housekeeping fee. Every $6.40 helps!

I slowly bought new furniture items that I liked - a futon and frame, small roll-top desk, area rugs and lamps. One room was starting to resemble my new "office" which would double as a guest room when necessary. One morning as I was getting ready to leave for work, I heard (and felt) a very large boom-crash. I cautiously walked upstairs to find the dust clearing and about half of the ceiling of my new room on the floor. Ah, the joys of owning an antique house...

Recycling day!

On this day before our nation's birthday, we slept in much later than normal, put out our American flag and started doing some work around the house. The hubby made his excellent potato salad (because it tastes better if it sits in the frig overnight). We'll take that to the afternoon BBQ tomorrow. In the morning, I will make a rhubarb/cherry crisp to take to the evening one.
We usually have a "4th Party" at our house, but this year we were invited to 2, and the times didn't conflict, so I'm feeling very popular! It seems that whenever we have a backyard party, it rains and we all go running inside to eat dry food. Fortunately, the nest is big enough to accommodate a crowd of about 20. This year, it may rain, but I don't need to worry!

We did some work on cleaning out the basement today. It was HOT outside, so a little underground work was appreciated. Unfortunately, what goes down(stairs) must come up. When we did, we loaded up the cars with cardboard and newspapers and drove to our friendly recycling center. A thunderstorm cooled us off a couple of hours later.

Our boxes did not look this clean, but they were about this untidy. Many of them were shoe and pizza boxes . Others were full of packing 'peanuts.' As for the newspapers, I did see some that were dated in February. If memory serves, that was just after I cleaned the family room to host our Super Bowl party. I really have been putting some out most weeks for the curbside recycling, but they somehow seemed to get out of hand anyway - yeah, the story of my life...
