Intro

I entered middle age a few years ago...okay, a little more than a few. Our daughters are 28 and 26. After they left, I cautiously redecorated their bedrooms. I did the usual, donated "Lucky" brand jeans (left from 3rd grade) and stuffed animals to a local thrift store. Next, I threw away countless plastic bags from "The Gap" and other retailers. Some of them included various amounts of change, which of course I took as my housekeeping fee. Every $6.40 helps!

I slowly bought new furniture items that I liked - a futon and frame, small roll-top desk, area rugs and lamps. One room was starting to resemble my new "office" which would double as a guest room when necessary. One morning as I was getting ready to leave for work, I heard (and felt) a very large boom-crash. I cautiously walked upstairs to find the dust clearing and about half of the ceiling of my new room on the floor. Ah, the joys of owning an antique house...

Procrastination?

Our small but traditional Super Bowl party will take place in "the family room" 2 weeks from today. The very same room that I vowed to de-clutter a few weeks ago. Now the deadline looms. I have not given up, quite the contrary; I have been working on smaller projects. These other jobs are necessary to my eventual purpose, but I can't help wonder if I'm procrastinating. Sure, taking the guitar out of its case and looking at it, and getting rid of all those pens needed to be done, but come on---
The other time consuming task is that of polishing silver. It began when I was preparing for Thanksgiving. I started to find more and more of it as I cleared the inner-recesses of various cupboards. It's one of those projects that just kept growing and some pieces are really tarnished! So it has taken time away from other more noticeable things!
Apparently, I do not stay on task without a concrete goal. So here are two new ones for the weeks ahead: By next Sunday (the 30th), I will have most of the magazines out of the room - 3 or 4 current ones are okay. The board games will also be purged again - I've done this so many times, but we really don't need 4 versions of Trivial Pursuit. None of us know the answers to any of the Baby Boomer edition, anyway. I'll do something with the afghans, throws, and pillows on the couch. We need a few for cold nights, but some I'll put in the "donate" box. That takes care of the bulk of the room. The area (2 large shelves) above the basement stairs will be the project for next week!
Wish me luck!
