Intro

I entered middle age a few years ago...okay, a little more than a few. Our daughters are 28 and 26. After they left, I cautiously redecorated their bedrooms. I did the usual, donated "Lucky" brand jeans (left from 3rd grade) and stuffed animals to a local thrift store. Next, I threw away countless plastic bags from "The Gap" and other retailers. Some of them included various amounts of change, which of course I took as my housekeeping fee. Every $6.40 helps!

I slowly bought new furniture items that I liked - a futon and frame, small roll-top desk, area rugs and lamps. One room was starting to resemble my new "office" which would double as a guest room when necessary. One morning as I was getting ready to leave for work, I heard (and felt) a very large boom-crash. I cautiously walked upstairs to find the dust clearing and about half of the ceiling of my new room on the floor. Ah, the joys of owning an antique house...

Two days after Christmas and I'm tired! I love this season of lights and goodwill, but this year I just did too much and slept too little. Christmastime brings a new problem to someone trying to clear a house out. My mother is always much too generous and sends a lot of gifts. This year, I decided that for everything that comes into the house, something has to go - I'm merciless! I got a cute new mid-weight lilac color hoodie. It's lined with the softest polyester this side of chinchilla fur. I have a jacket about the same length and weight with a broken zipper that I can easily exchange for the girlie new one. We also got new sheets for our bed and I think I have an old set that the elastic is wearing out on.

I did some swamping out of a cupboard in my entry hall last week while I was putting up my little Christmas village (that's where I store the tiny buildings). It was mainly old mail and catalogs (aahhh more catalogs). I am realizing how much work I may be in for and just how long this whole project could actually take. It's daunting, but I have such a feeling of accomplishment that it makes it worth-while..
