Intro

I entered middle age a few years ago...okay, a little more than a few. Our daughters are 28 and 26. After they left, I cautiously redecorated their bedrooms. I did the usual, donated "Lucky" brand jeans (left from 3rd grade) and stuffed animals to a local thrift store. Next, I threw away countless plastic bags from "The Gap" and other retailers. Some of them included various amounts of change, which of course I took as my housekeeping fee. Every $6.40 helps!

I slowly bought new furniture items that I liked - a futon and frame, small roll-top desk, area rugs and lamps. One room was starting to resemble my new "office" which would double as a guest room when necessary. One morning as I was getting ready to leave for work, I heard (and felt) a very large boom-crash. I cautiously walked upstairs to find the dust clearing and about half of the ceiling of my new room on the floor. Ah, the joys of owning an antique house...

One baby-step forward

I stayed away from the "Black Friday"sales this year. First, I hate trying to shop while someone shoves me aside to get to the last "Flip" camera on the shelf. Second, the few times that I have actually ventured to the Mall or the Big Boxes on Thanksgiving Friday, I have found something perfect...for me. We all know that I don't need any more stuff! If by some great good fortune I did buy something for someone else, it wasn't the perfect gift, it was always the case of trying to fit the present to the person, rather than the other way around.

On another subject, I didn't do much in the "pantry" in the last couple of days. I did, however, organize my desk. It came about as I was looking for a birthday card for a girlfriend - I bought it months ago and knew that it had to be for her. I noticed that there were a few cards that didn't have envelopes and a few envelopes that didn't have cards. Kind of a rerun of the sock thing - ahhhh.
While I was getting rid of them, a few stickers fell out of their hiding place - stickers that had belonged to daughter number 1 when she was, oh, maybe 9. Kitty cats, butterflies, frogs with glitter on them. Do you think I'll ever use them? Ha! They went into the wastebasket with the envelopes. Some software for a long-ago discarded cell phone and bills paid months ago are also now gone. It's so freeing, even to get rid of these few items.

...and finally, I completely forgot to take photos on Thanksgiving to prove that the table was indeed set. This pic was taken the next morning (while I wasn't taking part in Black Friday). I'm going to keep the table folded up like this for awhile.
